CARBOTRACE
Inert tracer technology for gravel pack applications has been developed to enable a safe, accurate and cost-effective evaluation for gravel-pack completed wells.
Our Base Ceramics products are engineered to deliver exceptional proppant
performance in oil and gas completions.
They ensure efficient hydrocarbon flow by optimizing proppant placement and fracture support, which are crucial for maximizing well productivity.
Research and field studies, such as those detailed in industry publications, have demonstrated the superior conductivity and long-term stability of ceramic proppants in hydraulic fracturing operations compared to conventional alternatives. Our Base Ceramics provide a reliable foundation for effective fracture treatments, minimizing proppant flowback and enhancing well longevity.
By leveraging CARBO’s Base Ceramics technology, operators can improve reservoir contact, increase production, and ultimately achieve higher recovery rates from their assets. Whether you’re looking to optimize completions in conventional reservoirs or maximize output from unconventional plays, Base Ceramics offers proven performance backed by industry-leading innovation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Base Ceramic Proppants?
Base Ceramic proppants are different grades of ceramics manufactured with various types of clays. The manufacturing process involves “pelletizing” the clay and then “sintering” it in a kiln to develop strength.
Ceramic proppants were developed as an alternative to natural sand proppant to be applied in deeper wells at higher stress levels. They are typically classified by density and strength as: Lightweight with an Apparent Specific Gravity (ASG) of ~2.7, Intermediate Strength Proppant (ISP) with ASG ~3.3 and High Strength Proppants (HSP) with ASG 3.6.
Should I use ceramic proppant or natural sand?
The decision of using sand or ceramic based proppants is an economics exercise. The process involves assessing the effective conductivity of the various proppant options at the reservoir conditions it will operate at, estimate the frac and well production profile with the resulting conductivity and assessing the cost-benefit of each option with an economic indicator, typically NPV or ROI. The proppant with the higher NPV or ROI is the one that will generate the most economic value and should be selected. CARBO can assist with this process as part of our service.
Despite being substantially more expensive than sand, ceramic proppants are also several times more conductive. The additional income generated by the higher conductive frac typically outweighs cost by one or two orders of magnitude compared to the additional cost.
What is CARBO base Ceramics offering?
CARBO offers CARBOLITE and ECONOPROP as Lightweight ceramics, CARBOPROP as ISP and CARBOHSP as HSP.
