Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You
Need to Know

  • 1. What role do proppants play in Enhanced Geothermal Systems?

Proppants keep fractures open in geothermal reservoirs, allowing continuous fluid flow and efficient heat transfer for sustainable energy production.

  • 2. How do CARBO’s GEOPROP products perform in extreme geothermal conditions?

All GEOPROP proppants are engineered to withstand the high temperatures and chemical environments of EGS, maintaining their strength and conductivity where conventional materials fail.

  • 3. Why is proppant durability important in geothermal wells?

Durable proppants resist crushing and degradation at extreme temperatures and stresses, ensuring long-term fracture conductivity and stable well performance.

  • 4. Can GEOPROP products improve project economics?

Yes, by enhancing fracture coverage, increasing heat transfer efficiency, and reducing proppant degradation, GEOPROP solutions help operators lower costs and maximize energy output.

  • 5. Can CARBO make any mesh size proppant?

Yes, CARBO makes any size proppant from microproppants (325 mesh) to very large mesh sizes, such as 6/14 mesh. CARBO manufactures proppants both in regular API sizes and monomesh, ultra-conductive proppants, which falls under the GEOPROP MAX technology. The most common sizes are 40/70, 30/50, 20/40, 16/20, 16/30 and 12/18 API sizes, and monomesh 35, 25, 20, and 18.
